2018 Annual General Meeting
Approximately 60 members attended the FCA’s Annual General Meeting at the Flinders Hall on Sunday 25 February 2018. Guest speaker, Professor Michael Buxton, delivered a compelling address on the planning pressures being applied to the Mornington Peninsula; the implications for small settlements like Flinders; and how the preservation of the Peninsula’s attractiveness can drive innovation and economic growth. He emphasised the need for stronger policy responses from the State Government to save the character of the Peninsula, describing it as a once in a generation opportunity; and outlined the potential consequences of inaction.
Alan Cowley from the Mornington Peninsula Shire also addressed members, supporting Professor Buxton’s observations about the unique character of the Peninsula. He also said that Council was reviving the Green Wedge management plans and seeking community submissions. A Green Wedge background issues report can be found on the Shire’s website. He also outlined the Council’s proposal to request the Minister to replace the General Residential Zone, in areas such as Flinders, with the Neighbourhood Residential Zone.
The Annual General Meeting confirmed the Minutes of last year’s meeting and received the President’s report and Treasurer’s Report. Committee Member Neville Wale then followed with an update on local Flinders planning issues.
The Outgoing Chairman, Neil Hallam, paid tribute to the retiring long-serving Committee Members, Graham Lewis, Ranald Macdonald and Pam Commons; and thanked other retiring Committee Members, Claire Thorn, Annie Austin and David Gibbs for their respective contributions.
A new Committee was elected comprising Jo Monie (President), Neil Hallam (Vice President), Susan Grant (Treasurer) and Sue Wilson (Secretary); supported by Committee members Neville Wale, Mark Holland, Charles Reis, Jan Aitcheson and Bill Richardson.
The first meeting of the new Committee is scheduled for Thursday 8 March.
