The Friends of Flinders Coastline aims to restore and protect the natural coastal vegetation along Flinders coastline, including the Western Port foreshore and in the Mornington Peninsula National Park. Our work focuses on maintaining biodiversity by protecting and enhancing the remnant bushland through the following initiatives:

  • Weed control – Identifying and managing priority environmental weed species to reduce their impact on native vegetation.
  • Revegetation – Restoring denuded areas to create habitat links between existing bushland patches.
  • Habitat creation – Increasing valuable habitat for native fauna, building on previous successes that attracted locally significant species such as the Dusky Antechinus and Swamp Rat.
  • Flora knowledge – Actively identifying plant species within the park and celebrating significant flora with the local community.
  • Community engagement – Fostering a sense of belonging by inviting Peninsula residents to participate in project works alongside the wonderful group of friends from FoFC.
  • Partnerships – Continuing to build relationships with students from a number of Secondary Colleges, Flinders Golf Club, Rotary Club, local businesses, and other groups and individuals committed to conserving this special area, most notably the Main Creek Catchment Landcare Group.
