We feel alarmed and very let down to learn that Parks Victoria has run out of money to complete the repairs to our historic Flinders Pier. Demobilisation has begun in the last couple of days, with the contractors instructed to make the pier safe before they leave. New piles intended to be inserted next week have already been removed from the lay-down area. This is a shocking development and will disappoint the 45,000 Victorians who supported the saving and restoration of the pier 5 years ago. Yesterday we urgently wrote to the Minister, Melissa Horne requesting the immediate release of additional funds for the work to continue. We are awaiting a reply and will keep you updated
