Community members who attended the recent informal ‘drop in’ consultation session received quite a surprise when an entirely new concept for the redevelopment of the Flinders Hall was presented by MPS staff and their architect.
One of the options now under consideration by Council involves moving the Hall across the road to the park, so that the Hall entrance would be from a car park on Bass Street. The new building would be integrated with redevelopment of the Flinders Pre School and include public toilets for park users.
More in line with expectations, an alternative plan was also on show at the ‘drop in’ session which involved rebuilding the Hall on the existing site.
Council staff emphasised that the proposals are a work in progress, and subject to comprehensive community consultation. It is our understanding that funds are available in the Council budget for progressing the preferred option.
Around 30 people who attended the ‘drop in’ session on the evening of Wednesday 12 June 2019 were able to make their views known to Council, and to our local Councillor and Mayor, David Gill. The wider community is invited to provide feedback to Council. It is important that as many people as possible let Council staff know what they think of these alternative concepts.
