Flinders Launches New Outdoor “Blue Gym” to Inspire Health, Connection and Active Living

The Flinders community is celebrating the arrival of its exciting new Community Outdoor Gym in Central Park, Cook Street — a vibrant new community sponsored space designed to encourage health, fitness, wellbeing and community connection for people of all ages and abilities.

Inspired by the world’s famous “Blue Zones” — regions where people consistently live longer, healthier lives — the new Flinders Blue Gym aims to bring that same spirit of active living and social connection to the Mornington Peninsula.

Blue Zones are internationally recognised communities where people enjoy exceptional longevity through healthy lifestyles, strong social ties and regular physical activity. These include Okinawa in Japan, Sardinia in Italy, Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica, Ikaria in Greece and Loma Linda in California.

Now, Flinders is embracing that philosophy in its own unique way.

With golf, swimming, sailing, cricket, pétanque, bowls, fishing, tennis, pickleball and walking tracks and now a fully accessible outdoor gym, Flinders offers countless opportunities for residents and visitors to stay active and connected year-round.

The new Blue Gym is more than just fitness equipment — it is a community investment in physical and mental wellbeing, social inclusion and healthy ageing.

“As long as we keep moving, stay connected and enjoy healthy living together, Flinders has every chance of becoming its own Blue Zone,” Chris Jaeger said.

The project reflects the passion and commitment of local volunteers, community groups and supporters who worked together to bring the vision to life.

The official launch welcomed several distinguished guests and community leaders, including:

      • Zoe McKenzie MP, Federal Member for Flinders
      • David Gill, Local Councillor for Coolart Ward
      • Maxine Cooper – President of the Flinders Community Association
      • And so many businesses and generous community donors who have made this possible

The Flinders community warmly invites residents and visitors to come along, celebrate the opening and experience the benefits of this exciting new community asset.
