The FCA were sponsors to the inaugural Flinders Fringe Festival and many FCA members were volunteers at the various events held throughout the village. The spectacular opening night at the Flinders Golf Club featured the wonderful giant puppets of weedy sea dragons with their babies swimming thru a grass meadow and dancing the Weedy Mirror dance. Displayed at dusk in a warm light breeze whilst families watched with awe as the weedies, supported by curlews and ghost shrimps gently swayed through the seagrass meadow. The Opera Arena Rusitca hosted by the Joel family in their riding menage was another spectacular event with trapeze artists from Soul Circus in Mornington and opera singers from the Melbourne Opera transforming the equestrian to the sublime! The final event in the St Johns Church grounds was a wonderful family picnic with 8 musical acts who entertained all with their singing and a final dance with the weedies as participants joined in the fun.
With another 40+ events that included music, dance, kite making, singing, art, special lunches, dinners, cabaret and jazz etc the festival had something for everyone. We congratulate the organisers and many, many volunteers who brought such fun to Flinders over the weekend.
Any profits will be directed to the Mornington Peninsula Foundation to provide music and creative arts programs for children and young people on the Mornington Peninsula with little or no access to them. The Mornington Peninsula Foundation is a place based philanthropic organisation with a big ambition to reduce disadvantage through systems change.
