A serene and beautifully layered garden in the Flinders hinterland will open its gates to the public for the first time this November, and I thought it might be of interest to you.
Little Steading is a tranquil 1.5-acre cottage garden bordering the Main Ridge Nature Reserve, with sweeping views across Westernport Bay. Designed by landscape designer Robert Boden and surrounding a 1930s cottage restored by Stephen Akehurst, the garden offers a unique blend of formal structure and natural, wild beauty.
It’s part of Open Gardens Victoria’s spring program and opens November 15–16. Spring is when Little Steading truly comes to life – think silver birch copses underplanted with daffodils and bluebells, ox-eye daisies floating through meadow grasses, and quiet garden seats shaded by quince trees.
