We are sure you want to see some action on the Pier repair and restoration so we have followed up with Parks Victoria and now reproduce excerpts from our correspondence for you. We will be following up regularly to ensure work commences or that we get a timetable for works to commence ASAP.
From the FCA to Parks Victoria:
“The Flinders Community Association is delighted with the news that the Flinders Pier has been added to the Victorian Heritage Register.
Having been assured by our MP Chris Brayne that $1.53 million has been allocated in the current State budget to begin restoration of the pier, people here in Flinders are looking forward to seeing the next step. Your website refers to safety work planned for the pier. We would be grateful if you would provide the anticipated time frame drawn up by your department for this work to commence, so that the full length of the wooden pier can again be accessed by pedestrians.”
Response from Parks Victoria:
“Thank you for your email of 23 October 2022 regarding the next steps for the Flinders Pier post the determination by the Heritage Council to include the pier to the Victorian Heritage Register.
Parks Victoria is now reviewing the Determination against the recent asset condition assessment to develop a scope of works that will best maintain service of the most deteriorated and essential components of the pier. Once the scope is prepared, we will review the statutory approval requirements, including those included in the Determination.
We are also discussing the Determination with the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council to understand the extent and requirement to update the previous Conservations Management Plan.
