Saving Flinders Pier needs a community — and on Friday 14 August, we had that community in spades!

A huge thank you to the 150 wonderful people — and their four-legged friends — who joined us on a beautiful sunny morning for our ‘Shout Out for the Heritage-listed Flinders Pier’. We were delighted to be joined by Mornington Peninsula Shire Council  Mayor Stephen Batty, Councillor Gill and local Member Anthony Marsh, along with passionate community members, clubs and recreational groups from across the Peninsula. This support means so much as we continue our call to the State Government to FINISH THE JOB and complete the restoration of our much-loved Pier. After some short speeches, the crowd walked out along the Pier to see for themselves the stark reminder of the Government’s promise last November — the “Minister’s Piles”, all that currently remains of the commitment to restore the Pier.

Thank you to everyone who stood with us today. Your voices, your energy and your determination show just how much Flinders Pier means to our community. Together, we can keep the pressure on and Save Flinders Pier!

Our Pier. Our Heritage. Our Community.
      FINISH THE JOB!

UPDATE: Following the rally, the Shire received a response from Minister Horne to correspondence sent two months ago.
The Minister confirmed the inner timber section of the old pier has been rebuilt. The works are welcome, but they are not the full restoration of the heritage wooden pier our community has been calling for.
We’ll continue to advocate for the State Government to complete the restoration.

We thank the Media for attending the event and supporting our cause, Simon Love and the team from the Mornington Peninsula Shire, the FCA, Peter Lain who set up the audio equipment and Neville and Sandra Wale who opened up the Cargo Shed.
