Around 60 members of the Flinders Community Association attended this year’s Annual General Meeting on Sunday 10 February.

Mayor David Gill attended the meeting; joined by this year’s guest speaker, Mornington Peninsula Shire’s new CEO, John Baker who spoke about his background and recent appointment.

John commenced his address by explaining his early career as a social worker in the UK working with marginalised young people; his subsequent move into public administration; before a successful transition to ‘big 4’ consulting, initially Ernst & Young and later KPMG.

He described his new role as a vehicle to deliver on the vision of the Shire’s Councillors who serve as our elected representatives. John then went on to emphasise why the preservation of the Green Wedge remains a critical issue for the Mornington Peninsula; and further noted the important role that all communities can play in influencing State Government decisions.

The meeting followed with an update by President, Jo Monie on the FCA’s achievements in 2018; an account of the organisation’s finances by Treasurer, Susan Grant; and a review of the planning challenges in Flinders by Committee Member, Neville Wale. The Election of office bearers and committee members for 2019 was then conducted. The newly elected committee for 2019 includes: Jo Monie (President); Sue Wilson (Secretary); Susan Grant (Treasurer); Neville Wale (Planning); Neil Hallam, Mark Holland, Charles Reis, Alan Kirsner and Mark Aarons. Previous Committee members, Jan Aitcheson and Bill Richardson retired from the FCA committee and we thank them for their commitment, support and involvement during 2018.
