Plenty of action in a diverse range of fields occupied your Committee this year. Here are a few highlights:
Organised the FCA dinner on 12 January 2019 at the Flinders Golf Club, attended by 124 members and friends. The next dinner is booked for 11 January 2020.
Held the FCA AGM on Sunday 10 February with guest speaker John Baker, the new Chief Executive Office of Mornington Peninsula Shire (MPS). The meeting was also attended by Mayor David Gill.
Met State Member of Parliament Chris Brayne to advocate on issues such as the Westernport Villages Study and Green Wedge policy.
Distributed Newsletters to members in February and September.
Attended consultative meetings on the Redevelopment of the Flinders Hall held by MPS staff, on 13 February and 12 June 2019.
Subsequently lodged a Submission to Council expressing strong support for Option 1 – leaving the Hall on the present site.
Organised a visit of 50 members to the West Head Gunnery School on 12 March to mark its 60th anniversary.
Jointly sponsored the third annual community picnic on the Flinders ocean beach on 16 March.
Made a detailed submission to Mornington Peninsula Shire re the Neighbourhood Character Study and Western Port Coastal Villages Strategy.
Briefed WEBOPTIMISERS to redesign the Flinders Community Association website and provided regular website updates.
Supported the Flinders District Historical Society in the redevelopment of the Cargo Shed (which has since won awards for Creative Reuse of a Heritage Place, Excellence in Interpretive Signage, and the National Trust People’s Choice award).
Regularly attended meetings of Red Hill Ward Resident Associations arranged by Cr David Gill.
Laid a wreath on behalf of the FCA on ANZAC Day.
Made a formal Proposal to Council re naming the Cove Lane pathway to the beach the Gladys Aarons Way.
Supported efforts to establish a Community Garden.
Objected to proposed Helipad at Point Leo Estate
Investigated viability of walking track along the main road from Flinders to Shoreham
Advocated on a range of issues in correspondence with:
- Minister for Planning and Chris Brayne MP re the Victorian Government plans for protection of strategic agricultural land
- VicRoads re traffic control signs in Cook and Wood Streets
- Mornington Peninsula Shire re street signage policy in Flinders
- MPS re jet skis
- MPS re hang gliders
- MPS re the tourism signage in the main park
- MPS re Better Buses campaign
- Individual members and residents regarding matters such as planning, road works and drainage
