On December 17, 2022, Federal Minister for Climate Change and energy Chris Bowen launched the “Community Batteries for Household Solar” committing $200 million for 400 Community Batteries. The program is designed to enable Australians to store solar energy for use during peak times and share excess power with other households. The Batteries will help to lower electricity bills, improve reliability of the electricity grid and cut emissions.
The Federal Government released the Grant Guidelines for the first 58 batteries in stream 1 that were promised during the election with applications opening on 30 January 2023.
Flinders is one of 56 communities identified in the guidelines as being eligible for Federal funding for a battery under this scheme.
Applications will be assessed against the best outcomes for families and the energy network, including:
Flinders Zero Carbon Community (FZCC) will be preparing a grant application for submission by the end of February 2023.
