Flinders Cricket Club has won the inaugural Peninsula Division 1st XI Premiership against Main Ridge CC at David McFarlan Reserve in Sorrento.

MRCC won the toss and elected to bat on rain effected Day 1. The game started two hours late, but the Flinders bowlers were on from the start.
Dwayne Field picking up two wickets in two balls then Matt Burns got the big scalp of former Victorian batsman Nick Jewell and MRCC were in trouble.

After the opening bowlers were changed, the bowling continued to be tight. Max Royal was sensational in the middle part of the day, sending down
fifteen overs (nine maidens) and claiming 3-10. At the end of Day 1 MRCC were 8/74 off 57.3 overs.

Day 2 started off fantastic for Flinders, they claimed the final two wickets for two runs and Main Ridge were all out out for 76. Field 14/8/3-15, Burns
19.4/8/4-32 & Royal sharing the wickets.

Flinders had 100 overs to make 77 runs. The opening Batsman were determined not to give any momentum back to Main Ridge. Charlie Burgess (17) and Mason Mail put on 21 in twelve overs, before Burgess was dismissed. Tom Clements (10) joined Mail and again these two added another 20 runs in fourteen overs. When Clements was caught behind the sting was taken out of the game.

The game was broken apart when Flinders coach Blake Hogan-Keogh (30) strode to the crease. In no time he had taken the score to 2/69 when afternoon tea break was taken, second ball after the break Hogan-Keogh pulled the ball to the backward squad leg boundary for six but two balls later was out. Matt Burns was sent out to hit the winning runs, but the end of the over was called. That honour was left to 18 year old opening batsman Mason Mail, who batted for 38 overs and carried his bat for 12 not out, who pulled the ball for four and the game was conceded by MRCC.

Flinders CC had won their first premiership in seven years and are now promoted to Provincial Division where they haven’t played for 35 years.
