In 1903, 120 years ago, David Maxwell set about forming the Flinders Golf Club. Prior to 1903, there was a 4 hole golf course carved out of the coastal scrub by Scottish telegraph operators. Jam tins were used on the greens as holes. Adjacent to the 4 hole course was a racecourse. By December 1905, Flinders was a 4,000 yard course of 18 holes, and in 1905 the renowned Easter Tournament was first played, an event that has continued annually, almost uninterrupted, to this day.
These pioneering visionaries have given us today one of the most spectacular coastal golf courses in Australia. In our 120th year, we acknowledge our forebears, celebrate with members and guests our wonderful golf course and Club and say thanks to the Flinders Community which we are proud to be a part of.

We are working with the kind cooperation of the Flinders & District Historical Society to archive and catalogue the Club’s history. We plan to better showcase our history in the Clubhouse.
