PLANNING ISSUES
Our committee, with wonderful assistance from Neville Wale, is keeping an eye on all planning issues at local and state level on our behalf.
The most significant recently, is the government announcement at the end of September of welcome measures relating to the introduction of a number of initiatives to stimulate affordable housing development. However the changes to the planning requirements give developers a fast approval pathway that excludes inputs from members of the community. It excludes any social impacts, for example, to the displacement and relocation of existing residents living on potential development sites.
The FCA is concerned that these Ministerial Amendments have very wide application and potentially threaten the integrity of Residential Zones and the Green Wedges since the provisions “overrule any inconsistent (contrary) Planning Scheme provisions”.

MPSC PEDESTRIAN ACCESS STRATEGY
The FCA has a detailed submission on the Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Draft Pedestrian Access Strategy 2023.
We will be reminding Council of the budget application we made particularly in relation to the Pier precinct road access to the Monument which we see as dangerous and needing urgent attention.
How you can influence our approach:
We encourage you to review the Draft Pedestrian Access Strategy 2023 and Principal Pedestrian Network (PPN) to provide MPSC your feedback. For instance, you may feel they have missed something important, or you may disagree with the weightings in the evaluation methodology, or you may feel there’s a key footpath that is missing, or a footpath on the list that should be ranked higher.
By submitting your feedback online, you can also view and add comments to an interactive map featuring the Principal Pedestrian Network. All feedback will be reviewed and considered for inclusion in our Final Strategy. For more information and to have your say, CLICK HERE.
Community consultation is open until 27 October 2023. Hard copy forms are also available on request from MPSC Customer Service Centres.
The FCA encourages everyone to submit their feedback to the Council.
