Please note that the Genesis Baroque recital scheduled for Sunday 1 December at St John’s Flinders has been changed to SUNDAY 15 DECEMBER at 2.00pm. Its title CHRISTMAS PICNICS AND PARTIES has had the intriguing addition of FETE CHAMPETRE (translated as garden party). The recital will end with the recital patrons joining the performers under the trees in the St John’s gardens with a complimentary glass of Prosecco – an ideal afternoon break from the pre-Christmas rush!

Don’t miss virtuoso Simon Rickard on the baroque musette: bagpipes that were the ultimate ‘exotic’ addition to garden parties in the French Court of Versailles! A lavish fête champêtre (garden party) would often involve entire orchestras of musicians hiding in secret areas of the gardens, while patrons roamed around, glass in hand, feasting on picnics, in a wonderfully over-the-top celebration.
Kick off the festive season with this wonderfully eccentric, completely gorgeous party music with some of Australia’s finest early music specialists Simon Rickard (baroque musette), Laura Vaughan (viola da gamba), Hannah Lane (baroque triple harp), and Jen Kirsner (baroque violin).
