On Friday 11 May, 140 people turned out on a cold and blustery evening to attend the Lions Alzheimers Awareness Dinner; held at the Flinders Golf Club.
Associate Professor Stephen McFarlane delivered a very informative speech on the science of Alzheimers; its cause; the latest developments in treatment; and the indicators of its early onset. He then went on to answer questions from the audience; and spoke more generally about dementia.
The sell-out fundraising dinner was organised by the Flinders District Lions Club in support of the Lions Alzheimers Foundation, which is dedicated to funding scientific research to advance the diagnosis, treatment and preventative measures of dementia.
The dinner was generously supported by a range of donors who donated either goods in kind or services and experiences, which were then sold to the highest bidder as part of a silent auction on the night.
All proceeds from the dinner will be used by the Lions Club to continue its support of the Lions Alzheimers Foundation.
