The fifth annual Flinders Mother’s Day Classic has again been a huge success, attracting 705 walkers – up from 550 participants last year. The weather behaved, encouraging more walkers and runners to register on the day and raising in excess of $27,000; the best result so far.
Since starting 5 years ago, the annual Flinders Mothers Day Classic has raised over $100,000.
The walk and run began at the FYC; then followed a route up the Esplanade hill (or the steps from the pier) to Cook Street; down through the village to King St; left to Golf Links Road and back along the golf course to the yacht club. This route is a stunning way to see the best of Flinders and provided the walkers an opportunity to see what Flinders has to offer.
The generosity of the local traders and businesses was humbling, with their donations of scones, muffins and biscuits to sell; and many items to use in the auctions and raffles. And special thanks to the Flinders Yacht Club (FYC) for its use as a venue to start and finish the event.
In the words of Denise Kidman, “there was a sea of pink moving through town for well over an hour.”
The Mother’s Day Classic is an annual fun run and walk raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research.
