In a break with tradition, the weather conditions were surprisingly subdued for the opening night of this year’s Flinders Art Show.
Now in its 51st year, nearly 400 people turned out on the opening night to view a large range of locally produced artwork that ranged across paintings, drawings and photographs. Overall, nearly 600 works were contributed to this year’s Art Show competition, judged by local artist and gallery owner Cheryl Petersen; and internationally renowned equine artist, Lyn Beaumont.
Radio personality Neil Mitchell, a long time supporter of Flinders, once again officiated the presentation of prizes to the winning artists, many of whom were in attendance. Overall Best Work was won by Kasey Sealy with her fabulous depiction ‘St Marco’.
The evening was also supported by harpist, Tarn Johnson; and impromptu performances from young actors belonging to the Dreamhouse Theatre Company, who mingled in the crowd and provided a sense of spontaneity to the occasion.
Over the course of the weekend, the art show attracted a continuous flow of visitors keen to view and purchase from the wide range of artistic mediums on display.
The Flinders Art Show has grown considerably since its early days and is now a permanent local fixture on the Queens Birthday Weekend each year. Well done to all the volunteers who again made the Flinders Art Show such a successful event.
