The September quarter has been one of the busiest periods in recent times for the FCA.
Following an unsuccessful submission from the FCA to the State Government to fund toilets in the Flinders Recreation Reserve, the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council has since stepped forward with a budget item to examine the feasibility of building a toilet block. It is a small win, and a step in the right direction.
Many members will be aware (and attended) our last community meeting in July, where we discussed the re-development of the Flinders Community Hall. Since then, the Council has agreed to investigate further; and committed to undertaking a study of community requirements. The council also committed funds to make temporary repairs to the leaking roof.
Finally, the FCA joined with the Shoreham Community Association to share concerns about proposed plans for the windmill paddock on approach to Flinders. With the support of Councillor David Gill, the plans were “called in” and reviewed. Subsequent negotiations between Council and the owner have since resulted in changes to the proposed development which will preserve a significant part of the view lines looking across to the South. A win-win for all parties.
