Historic Cars On Display In Flinders

On Easter Sunday, the Flinders Lions Club conducted its third Motoring Heritage Display, marking it as an annual event.

The display attracted around 150 cars, nearly all of which were driven to the event including a 1909 Buick and 1912 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost. The display covered three different display areas; with nearly 40 local volunteers from Lions and the FCA marshalling cars, collecting entry fees, conducting a sausage sizzle and delivering refreshments to sponsors. During the course of the day, around 1000 people passed through the three seperate venues to view the cars which included a mix of classic vehicles showcasing more than 100 years of motoring; through to the latest state of the art high performance cars provided by sponsors. A few celebrities were spotted in the crowd including Australia’s former Foreign Minister, Julie Bishop.

Many visitors to the Motoring Heritage Display were experiencing Flinders for the first time; and followed on with a stroll through the main street, shopping and sharing our unique seaside town.

A cheque for $33,675 was presented to Peninsula Health during the event, which was generously supported by law firm Kalus Kenny Intelex as Platinum Sponor; and Tickford as Gold Sponor. The Silver sponsors, providing display cars for the event included Zagame Automotive and Porsche Centre Brighton. Thanks also to Whelan, the boiling water specialists; RT Edgar, Bendigo Bank and Blue Print.

The FCA and Lions would also like to thank the following businesses for their sponsorship and commercial support including the Village Cafe, Flinders General Store, Flinders Hotel, Dutton Garage; together with Hugh Gallery, Mike Rings Art Gallery and Arleston Antiques.

Congratulations to the organisers in particular Mary Iles, Sven Burchartz and Mark Holland; and all the Lions Club volunteers. And special thanks to the judges, Brian Hussey and Ryan Johnson.
