Motoring Heritage Display & Flinders Market

On Easter Sunday, the Flinders Lions Club conducted its second  Motoring Heritage Display.

The display attracted around 180 cars, with historic Porsche, Jaguar and Austin Healey cars numbering more than a dozen each; and two very rare Ford high performance cars. The logistics for the event were formidable – three different display areas; 40 volunteers from Lions, FCA and others roped in for good measure; a Lions sausage sizzle; refreshments for sponsors; raffle of a weekend Mercedes sports car compliments of Mornington Mercedes Benz; and the highlight – racing legend Alan Moffat in attendance to present the prizes. During the course of the day, more than 800 people passed through the 3 different venues to view the cars which included a mix of classic vehicles showcasing more than 100 years of motoring; through to the newest and latest state of the art high performance models of Audi, Jaguar, Porsche, Lamborghini and Alfa Romeo.

The village was jumping and visitors were happy to stroll through the main street shopping and sharing our unique little seaside town.

The event was generously supported by Zagame as the principal sponsor, Kalus Kenny Intelex, Brighton Jaguar, Porsche Centre of Brighton and Tickford  which each brought cars and Benidgo Bank Balnarring. Also sponsors in kind, namely RT Edgar, Red Hill Bakery, Flinders General Store and the Williams family. Local traders Cookies & Co and Flinders Bakehouse cafe had specials for coffee and lunch for sponsors and ticket holders.

Congratulations to the organisers at the Lions Club, in particular Mary Iles, Clay Manners, Pete Dawson, Sven Burchartz and Mark Holland. The money raised will go towards local community initiatives.
